The Big Lake Hornets football team won their first game of the season 25 – 6 over Grand Rapids on Thursday Aug. 29. The Hornets got on the board a couple of times in the 1st quarter. DeAndre Hill intercepted a pass and took it 78 yards the other way for a touchdown. In their 2nd offensive possession, Hornet QB Brandon Stern tossed a ball to Jack Iverson for a 49 yard touchdown.
In the 2nd quarter, the Hornets put together a 13-play 90 yard drive that was capped off by a Brandon Stern 13 yard touchdown run. That would put the hornets up 19 – 0 headed into halftime.
The Hornets came out a bit sluggish in the 2nd half. The offense only had 11 plays in their 3 drives of the 3rd quarter, and the defense gave up their first touchdown of the season when Grand Rapids threw a slant route into the end zone for a touchdown.
The defense started the 4th quarter with a stop in the red zone and would get the ball back to the offense on their second series of the 4th quarter when defensive back Jayden Dimpka picked off a Grand Rapids pass inside of Hornet territory.
The offense fed off the momentum shift and scored quickly on a 4-play 67 yard drive, capped off by a DeAndre Hill 22 yard touchdown run.
