On a very warm and windy Tuesday afternoon, the Hornet Middle School and JV XC teams ran on the track to compete in a virtual conference meet. Teams from across the conference also ran on their tracks that afternoon. Those times were melded together into full results. The teams ran on the track to ensure that all teams ran the exact same distance with the same ground conditions. It was a bit surreal, but this whole season has been a bit surreal. Not having the girls team made it feel a bit empty, but the MS and JV boys teams ran well in their last meet of the year. The JV boys learned that 5000m on the track can seem farther than a 5k on a golf course. Mentally, running all those laps on the track can take its toll. Tre’ Gordy was the top finisher for the Hornets in the JV race. Tre’ has been on the team since 7th grade and finished in 28th place overall and was followed by Jacob Polacec and Matthew Denzen. This trio really helped to push the varsity this year and really added depth to the team. In the MS race, Gavin Vold was the top finisher with a 17th place finish. Kale Westgaard had one of his best races of the season to finish second on the team. Trent Erickson, Gerardo Vazquez, Peter Halvorson, and Adiel Cisneros all continued to improve. This MS team has come a long way since the start of the season, many couldn’t run two miles. let alone race it. Great Job to all the Hornets!
