The Big Lake Football team suffered their first loss of the season last Friday (Sept. 6th) at the hands of the ROCORI Spartans, 13 to 30. Big Lake scored on their opening drive but struggled offensively until they scored again late in the 4th quarter. The Hornets were moving the ball well on their first drive when DeAndre Hill fumbled the ball at midfield. The Hornets got a lucky bounce right into the hands Jayden Dimpka and he did the rest of the work. Dimpka picked up the fumble and ran it 51 yards for the touchdown. Unfortunately, the extra point was no good for the Hornets and they took a 6 to 0 lead.
The Hornets also struggled on defense in the first half. ROCORI scored on each of their first four possessions and took a 30 to 6 lead into halftime.
The Hornet defense turned in an impressive performance in the second half keeping ROCORI off the scoreboard and forcing one turnover.
The offense finally got the ball moving in the 4th quarter and got on the scoreboard one more time when Rieley Mullen scored on a 63-yard touchdown run. The extra point try was converted by Josh Hunt.
The Hornets’ next game will be on Friday, September 13 at home in Big Lake. They take on the Willmar Cardinals.
